Since enrolling in the Program in late 2013, the County of Orange (County) has been working alongside The Energy Network to receive support on 13 different energy efficiency projects. As of today, 4 of those projects have been completed and 5 are currently underway. These 9 projects will provide substantial energy and cost savings to the County - over 1 million in kWh savings, over 2,000 therm savings and an annual cost savings of almost $140,000. The 5 remaining projects are in the planning stages and once complete will provide additional energy savings close to 35,000 kWh and almost $2,000 in additional annual cost savings. These projects, along with the ones currently in progress, have anticipated completion dates in 2017.
The County's energy efficiency retrofit portfolio includes diverse projects across multiple county departments - all with their own unique needs. For example, the County Public Works Department has collaborated on lighting projects at community libraries, parking lots, data center and other facilities to increase energy efficiency while improving reliability of public safety lighting. Additionally, the OC Public Works Department is addressing various mechanical upgrades and cost saving opportunities such as controls and boiler upgrades and replacements.
"Without The Energy Network, our program would not have made as much initial progress as we did due to internal staffing shortages. Today, the team has an awesome forward looking plan as we continue to find new ways to save energy. I can't say enough about my team, thank you The Energy Network!"
-Don Reis, Utility/Energy Manager, OC Public Works, County of Orange
As the County completes these projects, they plan to continue to work with The Energy Network to capture even more savings and improve their facilities along the way. The Energy Network has already evaluated the energy use of over 120 facilities throughout the county and together with the County, has identified several additional opportunities for future energy efficiency projects for streetlights, libraries and other county facilities.
Agencies like The County of Orange are leading their communities by taking bold action to complete energy efficiency projects and in turn, serving their communities with shared benefits such as improved illumination, greater reliability, reduced energy costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and ultimately creating a healthier community.
