Western Riverside Council of Governments' (WRCOG) Streetlight Demonstration Area
(in the City of Hemet) is now ready to collect public input on future street lighting design for Western Riverside County! WRCOG has developed this demonstration area as part of a program that will help jurisdictions purchase nearly 63,000 SCE-owned streetlights in Western Riverside County and retrofit them with energy efficient technologies, saving millions in annual utility costs.
With participation from 12 LED Lighting manufacturers, WRCOG created two versions of surveys to assess public input of the lights. The first, a simplified survey asking participants to rate the before/after picture and indicate which they prefer. The second survey is slightly more detailed and requires participants to view one or more lights by visiting the demonstration areas and rating the lights based upon a series of subjective statements.
After testing the 150+ potential fixtures ranging from intersection safety lights and highway street lights to residential street lights, the top selections will be used to replace the 63,000+ fixtures WRCOG's member jurisdiction are acquiring from SCE. More information can be found on WRCOG's website.
