"The Energy Network provided engineering services, project management, and the resources needed to streamline CVWD's energy efficiency projects from start to finish."
- Mike Maestas, Water Production Manager, Cucamonga Valley Water District
Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) enrolled inThe Energy Network in Oct 2014 to leverage the expertise of multiple project partners to increase efficiency of 13 booster pumps and 4 well pumps -- a project that will result in an expected annual energy savings of over a million kWh and an expected annual cost savings of over $150,000.
The success of the project is an example of true collaboration as it is a partnership between The Energy Network and Water Infrastructure and System Efficiency Program (WISE), SCE Third Party Implemented program by Lincus -- the energy audit which identified the opportunities and the utility incentives associated with the implementation of these opportunities were completed and reserved through the WISE program and the scope of work for the RFP was completed by The Energy Network in collaboration with CVWD. The partnership has been so successful that the RFP has now become a cited example for pump overhaul projects at other agencies.
Agencies typically only replace pumps when they no longer operate and on an ad-hoc basis, which can result in significant additional operating costs. However, CVWD took a systems approach, as recommended by The Energy Network and WISE, in scoping out the project and investigated all the pumps. This comprehensive method ensured a lower life cycle cost since the incentives from SCE reduced the initial cost of the overhauls and it also resulted in energy and maintenance cost savings.
To date, about 90% of construction has been completed with the remainder estimated to be completed by the end of August 2016.
